Keep on Keeping on...

So like everyone else in the blogosphere that isn't a professional blogger I quit blogging. Sad but true, it got away from me. I've recently started working on Deakon's baby book using Project Life and have suprisingly ended up looking to this little blog for tiny details that I have forgotten and even pictures that never survived two complete computer meltdowns (learned my lesson the hard way and now am the proud owner of an external hard drive). Searching through my posts reminded me of why I started doing it in the first place. I'm so grateful that I have pretty much Deakon's entire first year documented so I can be reminded of all the little things that time helps your brain forget.

So I'm going to keep on keeping on with my little family blog. No one may read it anymore but I know that my family down the road will cherish my posts filled with memories and bad grammar. :]

So for a little fresh start, Deakon has something he is so excited to share...

...we are thrilled!

A Plane Party...

Deakon's 4th Birthday wish; a "Duddy Duddy Cwrop Hopper party."

If you have seen the movie Planes then you would know that Duddy Cwrop Hopper is actually Dusty Crophopper, which happens to be Deakon's newest favorite thing. So we had a little party to celebrate our guy turning four. He did much better this year at sharing his new toys, taking turns during the games and playing with his friends. (last year, was a different story) Whew!
What a difference a year makes.

A Quick Little Anecdote...

So the other day Deakon and I went to see Dr. Hawley for his well child visit, she wanted to evaluate his speech so she started to ask him questions...

Dr. Hawley: "Deakon what's your favorite fruit?"

Deakon: "mmm...fru nacks!"

Seriously kid...way to make me look bad.

Dr. Hawley: "Okay, what's your favorite vegtable?"

Eyes up toward the right corner of the ceiling, hand cupping chin, index finger tapping lips, thinking really hard...

 Deakon: ..."fwench fwies!"

Who gets the worst mom of the year award...This momma.

So here's proof that Deakon, your favorite fruit at the age of three is in fact bananas. NOT fruit snacks.

Silly Kid.

Dear Deakon,

Just a quick little note...When you were in my tummy I had mommy day dreams about us cuddled up on the couch, or in your rocking chair while reading a book. You would giggle and point and pay attention to all the cute little pictures. You would love to have me read to you. Reality check... you honestly couldn't have cared less about making my day dream a reality.

Since you were tiny your attention span has lasted oh...um, about 2.5 seconds. Only lately, within the last few months or so have you really started to pay attention to the books I attempt to read to you. You love the bright cheery pictures, and pay attention to the story-lines. It's gotten really fun to read to you. We usually read a book right before "quiet time" aka: nap time (can't call it nap time anymore, if it has the N-word in it you absolutely refuse to sleep no matter how heavy your little eyelids are). We also read right after prayers and before bed. You choose a book and Dad or I take turns laying in your big boy bed reading to you. You love it when I read in character voices, point out colors, and letters and shapes.

Although my favorite part... my VERY favorite part is when I'm done reading, you ask to read the story to me. No matter how tired I am. No matter what kind of day we have had, I take the time to snuggle next to you for a few more minutes and listen...

Listen to you re-tell the story how you see it. You have a good little memory and can repeat the story back to me pretty seamlessly. However it always has a cute little three year old spin to it. I love that time of day and will cherish it forever. Love you to bits, Mommy.

{Favorite books currently are: Tickle Monster, Boogie Monster, Splat the Cat, your ABC Book, and the Little Quack Books.}

Monster of a Third Birthday...

Whew am I glad that birthdays are only once a year, and I only have one kid to throw a party for. The past two years for Deakon's birthday I was smack dab in the middle of grueling midterms. I was stuck in school all day and when I was home I was stuck with my nose in a book memorizing terms and conceots and such. My heart ached for those two birthdays because I wasn't able to throw a birthday blast for my little one and even worse I wasn't even able to soend the day with him making sure he knew how special he was to me.

This year however, I planned an entire two days of fun foe the birthday boy. He woke up to a living room full of balloons and we wnet to breakfast at IHOP. He got his very own smiley face pancake and was sang to and given a bowl of ice cream (at ten in the morning). We then went to the movie Hotel Transylvania, and had popcorn. About half way through Deak was over the movie, he ran up and down the stairs and played with his toys. thank heavens we had an empty theatre.

After nap time deak woke up and played and played. Preston was done in the spuds and was able to be home all day, a lot of wrestling ensued. After dinner we had a cupcake and presents. This birthday was fun because dEakon is starting to catch on. He knows about "berfdays" and "pessants" and "party cake".

Saturday we had all family and friends over for a little monster bash. In my mind I pictured a well mannered birthday boy taking turns and sharing his toys the house decked with the cutest decorations cutest and an amazing cake that were all handmade by me, blah blah blah.

Boy did reality smacked me in the face. The cake turned out to be a nightmare. Now amount off sprinkles could make that thing cute. It was just a good thing it was supposed to be a monster. It was so ugly it was cute. Deakon spent most of the time bawling because it wasn't his turn with the pinata, or the kids were playing with his new toys (ya we are still working in sharing) So did the party turn out to be like the ones you see beautifully pictures all over blog land?...NO. Was it memorable? yes. Did it make Deakon a happy little three year old?...sure did.  Deakon got spoiled rotten, had a blast with his friends and at the end of the night he was cuddled up with his favorite friends babbling on about "berfday" cake and "pessants".

It was all worth it.

We Have a Birthday Shout Hooray!

Well the Birthday Boy is wrapped snug in bed, with new toys (Bulls-eye and Woody) in each arm. A full day of celebrating being three years old under his tiny little belt. Man he's cute, being his Mom is the best thing that has happened to me.

Three years full of hugs and snuggles, growing and learning, and dare i say it...Sass. This kid is a spit fire ball of energy. Three years old is especially fun, because he's getting the birthday/present thing down pretty good. I love that he gets excited for things now. Although I have heard that the terrible two's don't stop at two. That we could use a break from.

We have a weekend full of partying planned, but while that is happening I'll just post his three year old pics. Bryana Likes took them and we love every one.

Happy birthday sweet boy!

Dear Deakon,

I love you, I mean really really love you.

With that in mind can I just ask what the recent obsession is with throwing my couch pillows all over the floor all of the time? I have never thought I would hate those things but man I hate them, especially on the floor.

I'm not quite sure where your dislike for pictures comes from but getting that picture perfect smile snapshot takes forever if it happens at all. I realize that these pics don't prove my point but just trust me.
With your third birthday coming up and pictures to follow that makes me a little nervouse.

You love suckers, and when I say love I mean love (you have your momma's sweet tooth). But if you could manage to not get your cute little sticky fingers in my hair that would be great. You see mom went to the bathroom to blow her nose in the mall, and well while in the stall she found a sticky glob of her own hair which made her say out loud "what is that?!" mind you the nieghbor in the stall next to me was probably just as mortified as I was, although I highly doubt it. Talk about awkward.

And if I could get you to eat anything besides the four C's (cookies, crackers, candy, and cake) I wouldn't know what to do with myself.  I mean your little finger nails seem to be flaking off on one hand, makes me think you are deficient in a vitamin (what else cold it be mom's out there?). I obviously need to be more consistent with the multivitamin and lie about carrots being candy or something.

All of that being said I'm just thinking you're lucky I love you so much, but in reality I'm lucky to have you.

We are working on sharing and it's slowly clicking, as for potty training, um...not so much. No pressure though. When your ready you'll be ready.

You always have your trucks in hand

When your in time out you ask for a hug...and I secretly love that.

You are obsessed with stickers.Obsessed. But they have to be on your arms or legs at all times. Forget sticker books.

I laugh everyday at the cute things you say and marvel at the things you teach me. While at the same time wonder if the terrible two's countinue to three? We'll see.

Love you little one,
Momma

Deakon-isms and a Photo Dump...

Things around here have been crazy! So much has been going on and I always think to myself..."I should blog about that" and "oh, I need to remember this." blah blah blah. honestly though I'm slowly recovery from a massive sinus infection and ear infection and Deakon is doing the same with double ear infections. So I thought I would just do a iphone photo dump and jot some cute things down about my ever growing two year old while I'm thinking about it.

Deak has morphed into a little boy rather than a toddler and that makes me sad.The only thing we have to master is potty training. that's happening this summer and well all I have to say is...Yikes!  But he is talking more and more everyday. and I know if I don't jot them down now I'll regret it later. So a here are a few Deakon-isms for your reading pleasure. (these might not be as adorable without a little two year old voice behind them but I think they are cute.)

"Chitty"- Kitty
"Ju"- Juice
"Dis"- This
"Boppa"-Grandma
"pappa"-Grandpa
"Berb"- Ferb (from Phinius and Ferb)
"Buzz"- anything Toy Story related

And yes he is still calling me daddy and Preston mommy, we are at a loss on how to fix this. Any suggestions? Correcting him every time has gotten exhausting and now I'm just going with it. I know strangers are probably thinking I'm a drag queen and the fact that I love big hair and sequins doesn't help the matter, but whatev. Let them think it. :]

Also this is just a little sneak peak of the two year old attitude that we have been dealing with, We had some pictures taken by Bryana from Bryana Likes Photography. She did amazing, but had to deal with some major attitude that morning if you can't tell. Those pics are soon to come!

"My Mom Needs a Little Girl"

I really should be studying, but the blog has been neglected like an ugly step sister for far to long. So I thought I'd just jot down a quick little memory...

This picture says it all...we have a little goof ball in our midst simply bursting with personality. He saw the headband on my head after dinner one night and begged me to put it on him, okay okay so maybe I kinda put it on first and then he wouldn't let me take it off. Either way it made Preston roll his eyes and me and little D laugh.  Mission accomplished.

the naughty spot...

Being first time parents Preston and I are finding ourselves a little unprepared in the "how to discipline your toddler mode of parenting". Toddler attitude has come in full swing around our household and we have decided that right now having a "time out" spot for Deakon is the best way to handle him when he's being naughty...

Naturally, if I can spray paint or slap vinyl onto anything I'll do it and this stool was no exception. I originally wanted a chair just his size that I could re-paint and make into a "Naughty Spot" but after months of looking and not wanting to pay $30.00 for a chair (we hope not to use often) I settled for a stool. It was half off at Joann's, so I brought it home and whipped out the spray paint, distressed it a little and slapped some vinyl on the thing.

I think it's pretty darn cute, although I don't think Deak agrees with me. : ]

I realize six months or even two weeks from now this could be just a huge waste of time, and he'll sit on the stool to watch Handy Manny every morning.  But as of right now though this is our plan, let's cross our fingers it works!

At 18 months?

(All the mom's that have had toddlers knew, wish someone would've warned me)
We love you anyway... :]
